OpportunitiesRECRUITMENT OF PARALEGALS WITH A VIEW TO TRAINING CONTRACTSWe have 2 or 3 posts at any one time for paralegals/trainee solicitors. All our training contract posts go to staff initially recruited as paralegals. Paralegals are taken on specifically with a view to a training contract. Their training contract will begin after the successful completion of 1 year as a paralegal. Training contracts are then for 2 years and we do not authorise any time reduction, so all trainees will have completed 3 years with us on qualification. The 3 years also applies to anyone seeking to qualify via qualified lawyers transfer. Applicants must have completed all the academic qualifications for a training contract before starting employment as a paralegal. The departments currently taking part in the paralegal/trainee solicitor scheme are Social Housing, Immigration & Asylum, Personal Injury and Family. The actual seats offered to any applicant during their 3 years will depend on the available vacancies at the time. We will endeavour to meet applicants’ wishes but no guarantees can be given beyond the meeting of the requirement of the Solicitors Regulation Authority Training Contract that experience is offered in 3 areas. Applicants should note that currently the expectation is that experience of legal aid work will only be offered in the Family and Immigration & Asylum Departments. Our Social Housing Department acts primarily for registered social landlords. Application is by application form only (available via website). Applicants are encouraged to consider the job description and personal specification. Applications by CV will not be considered. No agency applications will be considered. Preference in the application process will be given to candidates within a reasonable commuting distance of our offices. Candidates from further afield should indicate how they will intend to attend our offices if appointed. Persons wishing to qualify as solicitors via the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Regulations We are open to applications from persons wishing to qualify as solicitors in this way. In line with the criteria set for those who have studied the Legal Practice Course, any applicant who is required to pass any heads of the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test must have passed all those heads before the start date for our paralegal to trainee post. It will also be a condition of employment that we will expect all applicants to complete a 3 year period with us before qualification as a solicitor. We will not therefore sign off experience gained in our firm for a certificate of eligibility in advance of the completion of 3 years. This is in line with our position that we will not certify time to count to reduce the training contract period for someone following the LPC route.
The current expectation is that both positions will commence with a placement in our Social Housing Department.
