Frequently Asked Questions

1. Am I entitled to compensation even if no-one else is to blame or the accident was my fault?

No. You have to prove that someone has been negligent and that the negligence caused your injuries. For example, if you fall down the stairs at home, you will not receive compensation unless you have a landlord who has been told about the defect in the staircase and has done nothing about it. If you were involved in a road traffic accident which was your fault, you cannot claim compensation for any injuries.

2. What if the accident was more than three years ago?

You can usually only claim after a three-year period if you were a child at the time of the accident. If you were under 18 at the time of the accident, then you have three years from your 18th birthday to start the claim. But sometimes, when the injury is not immediately apparent, the three-year period does not start until it is apparent. The three-year period does not apply to people with a continuing mental disability.

3. What if the accident merely makes my previous condition worse?

You may still be able to claim.

4. What if I cannot afford any costs?

During the course of your claim you need not pay us anything. As the case goes on, we will finance your costs and expenses. We will never ask you to put your hand in your pocket for any money at all if things go smoothly – and an insurance policy will protect you from legal costs if your case fails. The Conditional Fee Agreement will be explained to you in detail, face-to-face and in writing when we agree to take the case on.

5. Do you form part of a group that advertises on TV?

No. Glazer Delmar is only associated with Accident Line Protect, an insurance product endorsed by the Law Society. We take an ethical stance on all our work. We do not pay for the cases that are referred to us. We are not members of any group that advertises on television. We do not have cases referred to us by companies known as "claims farmers". Most of our work comes by way of recommendation from previous clients and other solicitors. We do not ask you to sign consumer credit agreements, which others are known to require. The cost of the insurance product we use is normally fully recoverable from your opponent if you win your case.

6. If I come to see you for my first interview, will you charge me?

No
